Taxis along the old quarter and the beach
Tías takes in this whole stretch of coast: an old quarter of narrow streets beside the sea, then a long beach with a promenade, hotels and shops. With the airfield next door, its taxis handle two kinds of job — moving inside the village, and meeting or seeing off travellers at the terminal.

Two halves, one after the other
The settlement has two faces. To one side the old quarter keeps the shape of a fishing village — short streets, bars, the church; away to the east the beach opens into a continuous promenade lined with hotels and shops. A taxi earns its keep when the walk back is at night, when you are at the far end of the promenade, or when you are dining in the old quarter and would rather not walk home afterwards.
Where the cars stand, and when to ring instead
The signposted ranks cluster around the beach and the busiest stretches of the promenade. In the old quarter, with its narrow streets and no wide pavements, they are seen less often. If there is no car waiting, ring the Tías dispatch, which looks after Puerto del Carmen and Matagorda off the one line.
The terminal is just up the coast
The terminal is not far from this end of the coast, and the journey keeps to the coast road without detours. Even so, at the busiest arrival hours the queue at the airport rank can move slowly. If you are travelling with large luggage, a pram or as a group, order the vehicle in advance rather than sorting it out as you step off the plane.
Going out, and getting back late
The settlement keeps a nightlife going for much of the year, and late returns are common. At those hours there are fewer cars about than at midday, so ringing the dispatch before you go out saves you an uncertain wait at the roadside. This portal handles no bookings: the notice goes straight to the dispatch of the municipality.
Frequently asked questions
How close is the terminal to Puerto del Carmen? +
Short: the road from the terminal runs straight down the coast to the settlement. The indicative figure on this page is a road estimate with the date it was checked, not a promised time; the amount you pay is set by the meter.
Is walking the promenade by day, and taxiing at night, the way to do it? +
That is how plenty of people manage it: the promenade is flat and continuous, and walking by day is easy. The taxi comes into its own after dark, when you need to leave the settlement, or on the afternoons when the walk back feels long with the shopping or the beach gear.
What if I need a taxi from the old quarter? +
A signposted rank is not always to be found in those streets. The usual thing is to ring the Tías dispatch with the street name, or to ask at the bar or at your accommodation, which tend to know the nearest pick-up point and how a car reaches it. Calling from Ireland, put 0034 — Spain's international dialling code — in front of the number.
