Taxis in the fishing village

Between the sea and the northern coast road sits Arrieta, a fishing village in the north-east. A beach and fish restaurants, and little else once dark comes; the whole place crosses on foot in minutes. Taxis here are mostly called for the uphill trips inland, or to continue the road towards Órzola and Haría.

The sea end of the village

The beach and the bars along the promenade are where everything happens, with a handful of streets climbing from there up to the main road. This is not a resort of big hotels or late nights, so the fares are short ones: down to the sand from where you are staying, back into the village for dinner, and home again when the light has gone.

A couple of stands, one dispatch for the north

In a village this size the signposted ranks are few, and they sit where most people pass. More often you ring the Haría dispatch, which covers Arrieta along with Órzola, Famara and the village of Haría itself, or you ask in the bar or at your accommodation for the nearest point where a car will stop.

The long run in from the terminal

Arrieta sits in the far north-east corner, and the drive in from the airport is one of the longer ones: the car keeps to the coast or cuts across the interior to reach the village. If you are landing with bulky luggage or in a group, say what you are carrying when you order the car rather than when it pulls up, so that a vehicle with room comes out.

Moving along the north coast

Órzola and Haría lie on this same stretch of coast, joined by a road with few stop-off points and no services along the way. To do more than one of them in a day, treat the taxi as stages and tell the dispatch between each leg: the northern fleet is small, and no one should count on a car sitting there when they walk out.

Frequently asked questions

Where are the ranks in Arrieta?

Only a few, at the busiest points of the village — none on every street and none on the coast road. Ring the Haría dispatch, or ask at your accommodation; this portal takes no bookings.

Would a taxi take me on to Órzola?

Yes — it is a local run along the northern road, and a common one among people travelling without a car who want to see the port or catch the ferry. Ask with time to spare: the municipal fleet is small and is shared out among several villages at once.

Is the airport a long way from Arrieta?

The village is in the far north-east, so this is among the longer runs from the terminal. The figure shown here is a road estimate, dated with the day it was checked rather than a promise of the time, and the fare is whatever the meter comes to.

Will I get a taxi back at night?

Few cars work outside the busiest hours. Ring the dispatch before you go out for dinner, or when you are finished, and keep your accommodation address with a detail the driver can pick out easily from the car.
