Taxis along the southern seafront

Yaiza's southern end is where Playa Blanca sits: a promenade stretching on, beaches dotted along it, and housing estates pushed back from the water. Taxis here travel mostly between the walkway, the hotel groups and those estates inland of them.

The settlement you walk the length of

Playa Blanca is not one compact centre: it runs along the coast, with beaches, developments and shopping areas set apart from one another. You can walk it end to end, and plenty do by day. What people keep the taxi for is the long stretch, and above all the walk back — when the light is going, or when you are carrying the shopping home.

Look for the black-and-white plate

The ranks carry the black and white plate, and they stand along the promenade, at the entrances of the big hotel complexes and in the areas with the most shop traffic. When none is in sight, the usual answer is to ring the Yaiza dispatch: it covers the whole municipality, so the one service reaches Playa Blanca, Puerto Calero and the village of Yaiza. Calling from Ireland, dial 0034 — Spain's international dialling code — before the number.

The run to the terminal, and the way back

From the terminal this is a cross-island run to the far south: the vehicle leaves the airport enclosure and heads over the interior. If you arrive with large cases, child seats or as a group, say so when you order the vehicle rather than when you get in, so that one with a big enough boot is what comes. The indicative distance figure is published on this page with its date; the amount is always set by the meter.

Getting about within Playa Blanca

The commonest trips are promenade to residential area, accommodation to a restaurant at the far end, or down to the beaches at the southern edge away from the centre. On hops that short, mention it on the phone if you have beach bags or long gear: boots are not the same size in every vehicle, and a word up front means the right one comes the first time.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I pick up a rank in Playa Blanca?

Signed ranks stand along the promenade and through the busier areas, though not on every corner. If you see none, ring the Yaiza dispatch or ask your accommodation, which will usually know the nearest pick-up point. This portal handles no bookings: your notice goes straight to the operator.

Is the airport run a long one?

A long transfer it is: the vehicle crosses the interior without stopping until it reaches the south. The figure on this page is a road estimate carrying the date it was checked, put there to give you an idea — not a promised time and not a fixed fare.

Is the service still running in the quieter months?

The service runs all year. In the quieter months there are fewer cars about and the wait can be longer, so for early departures, night transfers or a group, telling the dispatch hours beforehand is the way to go.
