Taxis outside the arrivals terminal
Almost every traveller comes through César Manrique-Lanzarote airport (ACE), a few kilometres from Arrecife. Outside the arrivals terminal stands the rank, and no booking is involved: you join the official queue and take the first car.
Finding the rank once you are out
Come through the arrivals door and the rank is where you would want it to be, in the lane directly outside with the signs up. A queue runs along it, kept in order, and at the busiest hours there are staff directing who gets in which car. Inside the hall itself no driver may tout, so if someone approaches you in there offering a car, they are not working the rank.
Why the meter starts higher here
A supplement attaches to any fare that begins or ends inside the airport fence, and it is set out in the official tariff alongside the rest. That is the whole reason a journey of a couple of kilometres out of this terminal costs a good deal more, in proportion, than the same distance across town: the charge belongs to the service, not to the passenger, so it does not change with how many of you there are.
Why the queue beats a booking
For almost every arrival, nothing needs arranging: the queue is the system and it moves. The exceptions are worth knowing. Bring a group larger than one car takes, or a quantity of luggage that will not go in a normal boot, or land in the small hours when you would rather not depend on what is left of the fleet. In any of those, ring the dispatch of the municipality you are staying in rather than the airport, since it is they who send the car.
Frequently asked questions
Does the rank still work if I land in the middle of the night? +
It runs to the flight schedule, so a late arrival still finds cars on the rank. That said, the fleet on duty at those hours is a thinner one, and letting the dispatch of your destination know before you land costs nothing and takes the doubt out of it.
What is the fare into Arrecife from here? +
Of the airport destinations it is both the nearest and the quickest, and its indicative figure sits in the route list on this site with the date it was last checked. What you pay is whatever the meter reaches — that journey carries no fixed price of its own.
