Town to town, across half the island

From the bottom of Lanzarote to its east coast, the road carries you across half the island and into the capital. Neither end falls inside the airport grounds, so dispatch changes hands on the way: the office you ring in Playa Blanca is not the one answering in Arrecife, and each has its own way of taking a booking.

Map of Lanzarote

Up from the south road into the capital

The car leaves Playa Blanca, climbs the south road, passes through the municipality of Yaiza and carries on along the coast to Arrecife. The route crosses the volcanic malpaís, and the holiday landscape gives way to an urban one at the end. There are no stops planned unless you agree them with the driver when you get in.

Getting the car in Playa Blanca

Signposted ranks stand in the centre and around the port, and hotels will usually ring for you if you ask. Arriving by ferry, come out of the arrivals area and look for the rank; if none is standing there, the Yaiza dispatch covers the whole municipality — Playa Blanca, Puerto Calero and the village of Yaiza — and that is where the service is ordered.

Notice worth giving, and when it is not

For a pick-up in the middle of the day the rank is enough. Give notice in advance if you are leaving as a group, if you have large luggage, if your flight goes in the small hours from Arrecife or if you need an adapted vehicle. Bear in mind that the notice goes to the dispatch of the departure point, not the destination, and that this portal brokers nothing.

The bus, a hire car, and a time to keep

A bus link runs along the coast between the south and the capital: it is the cheaper option and suits anyone travelling light and in no hurry, though it takes a good deal of time and the last service of the day is worth checking before you commit. For getting about the island during your stay, car hire remains the most practical; the taxi is the one to choose when you have a time to keep.

Frequently asked questions

Is it priced like an airport transfer?

Not necessarily. This journey never touches the airport enclosure, so no airport supplement is added to it — but it is much longer than most transfers from the terminal. The indicative figure on the page is there for comparison; what you pay is set by the meter.

Will the car come right to my hotel?

Yes: ask at reception or ring the Yaiza dispatch with the exact address. If the hotel sits in a development with several entrances, give the full name too, so that you are not waiting at the wrong gate.

Can it drop me at the bus station or the port?

Yes — the drop-off is wherever you name when you get in. If you have a connection coming, be it bus, ferry or flight, mention it when you order the vehicle: the driver takes the most direct route and avoids a delay that would cost you the connection.

Does this site arrange the car for me?

No. Lanzarote.taxi is an informational portal: it sells no seats, confirms no vehicles and has no agreement with any taxi company in Lanzarote. Everything on this page exists so that you arrive at the call prepared.
