One resort to the other, along the east coast

Different municipalities, different dispatches: one of these resorts belongs to Teguise, the other to Tías, and Arrecife with the airfield between them. The trip runs hotel zone to hotel zone rather than from a terminal, which puts the weight on two things — who answers the ring, and how the meter is set.

Map of Lanzarote

Down the coast road, through the capital

The car leaves Costa Teguise, drops down the road towards Arrecife, crosses it and carries on along the south road to Puerto del Carmen. Coming back, it is the same road in reverse. This is not one continuous urban run: you have to cross the capital, and at rush hour it is the traffic that lengthens the journey most.

Two dispatches, and the one you ring

Going from Teguise into Tías takes the journey beyond a single dispatch's area. Order it by phone and always ring the one for where you are setting off — Teguise one way, Tías the other — since another municipality's will not come out to collect you there. Then, once you are in, ask how the journey is set on the meter and whether the vehicle's return leg counts: better to know before the meter is running.

Day or night, and what suits each

Between the two centres by day, the bus is usually enough. The taxi comes into its own when you are coming back at night, when you are a group, when you are carrying shopping or cases, or when the bus timetable no longer fits yours. It also makes sense if the accommodation is away from the stop and time is short. None of that is booked on this site: it is asked for on the spot or arranged by phone.

The bus by day, a hire car for the stay

By day the coastal line serves both centres through Arrecife and is the easy choice; the catch is that it thins out in the afternoon and evening, so check the time of the last bus before you set off. Car hire answers parking and the way back at any hour, and is what most people choose for a stay of a few days if they want to move without depending on anyone.

Frequently asked questions

Does the road take me past the airport?

The south road keeps alongside the airport enclosure, but neither your start nor your finish is inside it: the airport supplement applies only to services entering or leaving that enclosure, so it adds nothing to this journey.

Can I be picked up outside the hotel at either end?

Yes. Going out, ask at reception or ring the Teguise dispatch; coming back from Puerto del Carmen, ring the Tías one. Give the full name of the accommodation and the address at the other end either way, so that the reference price is realistic.

Bus or taxi — which one for this trip?

By day, with time to spare, the bus is enough and cheaper. At night, in a group or with luggage, the taxi avoids waits and changes. Plenty of travellers use both: the bus along the coast, the taxi for the late way back.

Who actually confirms that the car comes?

The operator, who you speak to directly. Lanzarote.taxi takes no bookings, charges nothing and has no agreement with any taxi company: this page is information, so that you arrive at the call prepared.
