Crossing the island to Playa Blanca
Yaiza closes the island in the south, and Playa Blanca sits at the end of it, reached on a southbound run from the terminal that takes the length of the island. Nothing is scheduled en route: the car simply crosses Lanzarote. Any figure quoted here is indicative and carries its date; the bill you settle comes from the meter.

What the drive to Playa Blanca is actually like
It is the transfer people picture when they think of Lanzarote, and it earns that reputation. Out of the airport the road runs south through the vineyard country, cuts across the lava fields at the centre of the island, and comes down into Yaiza with the salt pans and the sea in front of you. There are no stops on the way unless you arrange them: the car crosses the island and sets you down where you are staying.
When it is worth warning the dispatch
For an ordinary arrival with a case or two, the rank outside the terminal does the job and you need do nothing else. Tell the Playa Blanca dispatch ahead if any of the following apply: you land in the small hours, you are a group rather than a couple, or your luggage would fill a normal car twice over. In the south the same fleet covers the whole municipality, so a quiet word the day before is what gets the right car to the rank.
Cases, child seats and the size of the car
A transfer this long tends to arrive with more than people: large cases, a pushchair, a child seat. Say what you are carrying when you book the car and not when you reach it, because a boot that will not close is a boot that sends the driver back for another vehicle. There is also a legal limit on how many passengers a car may carry, and the driver cannot go over it however many of you are standing there.
The bus, a hire car, or the taxi
The coastal bus does link the airport with the south, though less often than the services nearer the capital and a good deal slower. Hiring a car is what most people settling in Playa Blanca do, and it makes sense if you intend to drive the island yourself. For the arrival itself, after a flight, the taxi is still the shortest route from the terminal to your door.
Frequently asked questions
Is the fare to Playa Blanca a set price? +
No. The figure shown here is indicative, taken from a published source and dated with the day it was checked, so that you have some idea of scale before you travel. What you actually pay is whatever the meter reaches, with the official supplements applied according to the journey.
I land on the last flight in — will there be cars? +
The rank works to the arrival schedule, so vehicles are expected to be there. Even so, it costs you nothing to let the Playa Blanca dispatch know before you land, and it matters more if you are several people or carrying a lot. This portal books nothing: any notice goes directly to the operator.
Is card accepted on a transfer this long? +
Usually, yes: most cars on the island carry a card machine alongside the cash tin. It is not compulsory for a driver to take one, though, so some cash is worth having on you. On a run this long, mention card when you get in — the machine needs charge, and a reader that dies at your door leaves you hunting for a cash machine in a village that has none.
