Taxi from Lanzarote airport to Puerto Calero

Puerto Calero is a marina beyond Playa Blanca, at the southern tip of the municipality of Yaiza. The journey there is long, passing through the settlement of Playa Blanca without stopping in it, and that is why saying the destination properly matters so much: a few metres of confusion and you end up in the wrong village.

Beyond Playa Blanca

The car crosses the island to the south, enters the municipality of Yaiza, runs through the settlement of Playa Blanca and carries on along the coast to the marina. It is the same route as for Playa Blanca for almost all of the journey, so if the driver has only a generic accommodation name, they may think that is the destination. Say it from the start: Puerto Calero, not Playa Blanca.

Where to be dropped

The marina has a vehicular entrance and pedestrian areas, with villas, hotels and flats around it. If you are going to an establishment, take the full name and the address; if it is a remote villa, a landmark — an entrance, a junction, the harbour itself — saves circling at the end. Drivers know the marina, but not necessarily every private gate.

It is worth giving notice at night

By day the airport queue solves the transfer. It is worth telling the Yaiza dispatch in advance if you arrive in the small hours, if you are coming as a group or if you have diving or sailing gear, because the southern fleet is limited and there is not always a vehicle with room when you need one. The notice is by phone and settled with the operator.

If the taxi is not worth it for you

The bus reaches Playa Blanca and from there you have to complete the leg to the marina on foot, by local taxi or by car: with cases it is awkward, but for anyone travelling light it is a valid option. Car hire is the usual choice for villas and flats in the south, because it also lets you get around the island without depending on timetables.

Frequently asked questions

Does the journey pass through Playa Blanca?

Yes: the south road enters the settlement and then continues to Puerto Calero. That is why it is worth repeating the destination when you get in. If your accommodation is in the marina, the correct turning is the one for Puerto Calero, not the one for the village.

Can the taxi take me to a villa in Puerto Calero?

Yes, the drop-off is at the door you indicate. Take the address written down — street and number, or the exact name of the development — because the villas in the south are scattered and not all of them are signposted from the road.

Are there taxis back from Puerto Calero?

It depends on the moment and on the fleet available in the municipality of Yaiza. For a departure to the airport, the prudent course is to tell the dispatch in advance rather than wait for one to pass the marina.
