The first stop past the terminal

The car leaves the enclosure, takes the south road and enters the settlement straight away. It does not cross the island or leave the municipality of Tías. Even though the journey is brief, it is paid the same way as always: the meter running, a receipt at the end and dropping you at the door of the accommodation you gave.

Queue or notice

By day there is no need to book: the airport rank is the system provided and passing vehicles are plentiful in this direction. Ordering a car hours ahead for such a short journey almost always makes you wait longer than taking the first in the queue. The exceptions are an arrival in the small hours, a large group or bulky luggage.

What to say when you get in

The full name of the hotel, because Matagorda has several establishments spread between the road and the coast; the number of cases, so you know whether the boot is big enough; and whether you will be paying by card. If you are coming off a delayed flight and have a connection, say so too: the driver adjusts the route to what you tell them.

In case it is not worth it for you

The coastal bus stops in the area and is the natural option if you travel light and in no hurry. Car hire is collected from the same enclosure and usually suits anyone staying several days and touring the island. On foot from the terminal is not a realistic option: you would have to allow for luggage and the heat along the coast.
