Taxi in Puerto Calero

Puerto Calero is a small, orderly marina just north of Playa Blanca, with restaurants, shops and a walkway beside the water. It is not a sprawling residential town: you cross it on foot, and here the taxi is used mostly to arrive from outside and to make the short hop to Playa Blanca and its services.

A marina you walk around

The site is compact: pontoons, premises and parking are only a few steps from each other, so almost nobody inside the marina needs a car. A taxi makes sense when you are coming from outside, when a dinner has just finished and walking to the far end of the walkway is not appealing, or when you have a flight to catch with suitcases.

A service you order in advance

Inside the marina there is rarely a permanent taxi rank, and the usual alternative is to call the Yaiza dispatch, the same one that serves Playa Blanca and the village of Yaiza. Also ask at the reception of your accommodation or at the restaurant where you are dining: they usually know who to call and how the pick-up point works.

A long transfer from the airport

From the terminal to the marina the vehicle crosses the island to the far south, so it is one of the longer journeys. If you arrive with diving gear, large suitcases or in a group, say so when you order the vehicle and not when you get in: that way they send a car with the right boot instead of repeating the trip.

The short hop to Playa Blanca

For the beaches, supermarkets, the pharmacy or the services that are not in the marina, the usual thing is to move on to Playa Blanca, next door along the same road. The journey is short, but it is worth saying so when you call: the car that collects you may have another job straight afterwards at the other end of the municipality.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a taxi rank in Puerto Calero?

A permanent rank inside the marina is not usual. The normal thing is to call the Yaiza dispatch or ask at your accommodation or the venue you are in, which usually knows the service. This portal handles no bookings: the notice goes straight to the operator.

Can I take a taxi from Puerto Calero to Playa Blanca?

Yes, it is one of the most frequent local journeys, because the marina does not have all the services of the larger town. Although the ride is short, the amount is set by the meter: there is no fixed price for that journey.

How do I get back to the airport from the marina?

By ordering the vehicle with hours of notice from the Yaiza dispatch. It is one of the longest transfers on the island, so leave margin against your flight time; the indicative distance figure on this page is an estimate with a date, not a guaranteed time.

Are there taxis at night in Puerto Calero?

The restaurant area stays busy for much of the year, but that does not mean vehicles are waiting at the door. For the way back from dinner, the sensible thing is to call the dispatch before you leave or when you finish, and to bear in mind that the wait depends on the free cars at that moment.
