Taxi in La Santa

La Santa is a small settlement in the west of Tinajo, facing the sea and known for its surfing, cycling and triathlon scene. It takes wind, has little shade and few people around: here the taxi is not found on every corner, it is ordered, and it is worth thinking about before it gets dark.

A small, exposed settlement

Facing the sea stand a few buildings, some bars and the sports complex that gives the place its name; behind there is no long promenade or shopping centre. You can walk everywhere in a few minutes, but in full sun or with a strong wind the walk is hard work, and that is where the local taxi proves most useful.

How you order a taxi here

In the settlement there is no network of ranks like the big resorts. The usual thing is to call the Tinajo dispatch, which serves La Santa and the village of Tinajo, or to ask at the accommodation. As the local fleet is small, giving notice hours ahead avoids standing on the pavement for a long time with a board under your arm.

From the airport to the west

La Santa sits at the western tip of the island and the journey from the terminal is a long one: the car crosses the interior to reach the west coast. If you are arriving with sports gear or bulky cases, say what you are bringing when you order the vehicle; not every car takes boards or bicycles.

La Caleta and the neighbouring beaches

Next to the settlement is Caleta de Famara, a beach of low houses facing the sea with a little harbour, and from there the coast turns north. To come back from a swim or a surfing session, keep the dispatch contact to hand: on the road there is no signposted rank and nowhere to ask for a car with any certainty.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a taxi rank in La Santa?

There is no signposted rank on the beach or in the settlement as there are at the resorts of the east and south. The normal thing is to call the Tinajo dispatch or ask at the accommodation or the bar. This portal handles no bookings: the notice goes straight to the operator.

Can I order a taxi from the beach?

Do not count on finding a car waiting on the sand. Call the dispatch with the pick-up point and, if people are waiting, call from the nearest establishment: that way the driver knows where to stop and does not lose time looking for the entrance.

Does the taxi work for surfing at another point of the island?

Yes, you can order a vehicle to take you to another beach or to the village, but it is a booked journey, not something you improvise on the shore. Say so when you call so that a car with space is sent, and ask about the amount when they confirm: there is no fixed fare for that kind of wait.

How do I get from the airport to La Santa?

By direct taxi from the terminal, one of the longest journeys on the island, or by combining public transport to the coast with a local vehicle. The indicative figure on this page is a road estimate with the date it was checked, neither a guaranteed time nor a guaranteed price.
