Taxi in Yaiza

Yaiza is the white village of the south: whitewashed streets, flowers in the doorways and a small centre you walk round in no time. It stands on the lava, on the road that climbs towards Timanfaya National Park, and almost everything depends on that road: arriving, leaving for the park or going down to the coast.

A small village in the middle of the lava

The centre is laid out around the square and the church, with whitewashed houses and local shops. Around it there are no beaches and no promenade: the landscape is fields and old lava flows. That means the people who visit the village move by car, and the local taxi is what drops off and picks up at the points in the centre.

Ranks and the municipal dispatch

In the village there is a signposted rank at the central points, but frequency is low: the municipality's fleet also covers Playa Blanca and Puerto Calero, which concentrate far more demand. If there is no car, call the Yaiza dispatch, the same one that serves the three centres of the municipality, or ask at your accommodation.

Along the Timanfaya road

Access to the national park is regulated by the park itself: opening times, visitor limits and the conditions of the routes are decided neither by the taxi nor by this portal. What you can do is go over the journey with the driver when you order it, allow for the time you will spend there and check the official conditions before you leave home.

From the airport to the inland south

From the terminal the vehicle crosses the interior of the island to Yaiza, passing through vineyards and old lava flows. It is a medium-to-long journey, so if you arrive with bulky luggage or in a group, say what you are carrying when you call the dispatch and not when the car is already in front of you.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a taxi rank in Yaiza?

Yes, at the central points of the centre, but with low frequency: the municipality's fleet is shared between the village, Playa Blanca and Puerto Calero. If you do not see a car, call the Yaiza dispatch or ask at your accommodation. This portal handles no bookings.

Does the taxi go as far as the entrance to Timanfaya park?

The journey can be made to the entrance, but access to the park and the visits inside are regulated by the national park itself: opening times, visitor limits and conditions are not managed by the taxi. Ask the driver when you order the vehicle and check the official conditions before you set out.

Can I go from the airport directly to Yaiza?

Yes, by ordering a vehicle from the Yaiza dispatch on arrival or by taking one from the rank at the terminal. The journey crosses the interior of the island; the indicative figure on this page is a road estimate with a date, and the amount is set by the meter.

Can I take a taxi from Yaiza down to Playa Blanca?

It is a common local journey, because both centres belong to the same municipality and share a dispatch. Even so, the car may have another job afterwards: when you call, say that you are going from the village to the coast so that the right vehicle is assigned.
