Taxi in Órzola

Órzola is the port of the north: a handful of white houses on the coast, a fishermen's pier and the ferry line crossing to La Graciosa. Of the island's villages it is one of the most dependent on a timetable — the boat's — and the taxi is planned around that timetable.

A small, quiet port

The settlement comes down to the pier, a few streets on the slope, and the bars and restaurants of the port area. There is no seafront promenade or big shopping: you walk across the whole place, and the taxi is used to climb up to the village, to carry on towards Arrieta or to arrive with cases from other points of the island.

A journey tied to the ferry

Anyone coming to catch the boat usually does so with cases and a time in hand. The ships leave on their own schedule and the journey from the interior of the island is long, so the sensible course is to ask for the taxi with margin to spare and to say when you call that you are boarding, so that the driver can judge the boot space and the time.

Ranks and the northern dispatch

At the port there is no wide network of ranks: cars tend to appear at the busiest points or are ordered by phone. The Haría dispatch serves the whole municipality — Órzola, Arrieta, Famara and the village of Haría — so the same contact works for the whole north.

From the airport to the north

Órzola is on the north coast and the journey from the terminal is among the longest on the island, with the final climb on narrow, bending roads. If your plan is to catch the boat on the same day as the flight, leave margin: it is better to arrive with time to spare than quickly and just in the nick of time.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a taxi rank in Órzola?

There is no wide network of ranks at the port. The usual thing is to call the Haría dispatch or ask in a bar or accommodation in the area. This portal handles no bookings: the notice goes straight to the operator and the wait depends on the free cars.

Does the taxi go to the ferry pier?

Yes, the pier is the usual pick-up and drop-off point of the village. Say when you call that you are boarding and how much margin you have, so the driver can judge the journey and the space needed for the luggage.

What do I do if I miss the ferry?

Check with the ferry line for the next sailing; the timetable is theirs and the taxi does not run it. To get about while you wait, you can ask the Haría dispatch for a vehicle and go back to the accommodation or take a walk along the coast.

Can I take large luggage for the ferry?

Say so when you order the vehicle: not every car has the same boot, and with the cases for a crossing the space fills quickly. If there are several of you with luggage, it is worth asking for a larger vehicle from the start rather than asking for help once you are in.
