Night and early-morning taxis in Lanzarote

At night the service does not disappear, but it changes: fewer cars are circulating free and the meter applies the second fare. For an early run to the airport or for getting back late, the difference between waiting at the rank and having the taxi ordered is one phone call.

The second fare

From a certain hour, and also on Sundays and public holidays, the second fare comes into force. The surcharge is by time slot and by day, not per passenger or per case. The exact hours and the amounts appear in the table of official fares, which is the source worth consulting; once you are in, the meter applies it by itself.

Fewer cars in the street

At unsociable hours the fleet circulating free is small and concentrated in the centres with more nightlife. In the quiet villages a taxi rarely passes in the street: there the option is to call the dispatch of the municipality and wait for confirmation, rather than going out to the road to try to flag one down.

Early departures to the airport

For a flight in the small hours, leave the notice the evening before and confirm it in the morning. Add margin for the journey and for the check-in queue: at those hours there is no second taxi waiting behind the first at the rank, and whoever forgets the notice is left without a car.

Getting back late

If you are returning from a dinner, a christening or a concert, ask for the taxi before the outing ends rather than when you leave, especially in summer and on long weekends. When demand rises along with the hour, the one who gives notice waits a while, and the one who does not walks or waits a good deal longer.

Frequently asked questions

Are there taxis at any hour in Lanzarote?

There is a night service, but not with the same volume as by day. At the airport the rank follows the arrival times of flights; elsewhere on the island it depends on how many drivers are on duty and on the dispatch of each municipality.

Is the night surcharge per person?

No. It is a different fare by time slot and by day, applied to the journey regardless of how many of you are travelling or how many cases you have. It shows in what the meter displays and in the receipt they must issue you.

Is it worth ordering one hours in advance?

For night or early-morning departures, yes: there are fewer vehicles in service and no room for error. For a short hop across the village at a reasonable hour, a brief call ahead is enough.
