Taxi at the cruise port in Arrecife

Cruise ships calling at Lanzarote dock in the port of Arrecife, a step from the city centre. Outside the terminal there is a taxi rank, but on the day several calls coincide the queue stretches: it is worth knowing what to expect and what to ask before you arrive.

Terminal and taxi rank

Disembarkation is at the cruise pier and the signposted rank is at the exit of the enclosure, on the street that faces the seafront. There are no trip sales inside the terminal and nobody is allowed to offer services to passengers on the pier: what there is, is an orderly queue and one taxi behind another.

Days with several ships in

When two or three ships come in at once, demand rises and the wait lengthens, especially if most passengers are heading for the same hotels in the south. At those times it is worth asking at the rank how long the wait is, or calling the dispatch, and comparing with the bus if your destination is on the line.

Luggage and space

You come off a cruise with several cases and often with a hand trolley. Say how many pieces you have before you get into the first taxi, so that you are not left with two cases on the pavement; if they do not fit, the rank will point you to the next vehicle or the dispatch will be called to send a larger one.

From the pier to your accommodation

If your hotel is in Arrecife, the journey is short and falls under the ordinary city fare. If it is in the south or the north, it lengthens, and it is worth asking whether it runs on the meter and which supplements apply before you set off. To get back to the ship with margin to spare, ask for the taxi in good time: the sailing hour does not move.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a queue of taxis whenever a cruise ship arrives?

The rank is prepared for the arrival and port staff organise the exit, but the wait depends on how many passengers come ashore at once and where most of them are going. On big calls, the margin matters.

Can I take my cruise cases in the taxi?

Yes, so long as they fit in the boot. Declare the number of pieces when you reach the rank; if there are many, they will point you to a larger taxi or call the dispatch so that nothing is left behind.

Can this site book me a transfer from the port?

No. Lanzarote.taxi explains how the service works and publishes checked and dated data, but it takes no bookings, charges no amounts and has no agreements with operators. The transfer is asked for at the rank or by calling the relevant dispatch.
