Frequently asked questions

Questions readers actually put, answered without padding, and every figure carries the date on which it was last checked. Anything missing from this page tends to sit in the guides or in the pages for each zone.

The short version

A Lanzarote taxi runs on the meter, is paid when you get out and is called through the dispatch of your municipality. There is no island-wide app here and no private-hire service working the island. This portal sells nothing and books nothing: it informs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I order an Uber or a Cabify here?

No. No private-hire service operates on the island, so the chauffeur apps are not an option. What you actually have is the taxi, the Intercity bus and car hire.

Do I have to tip the driver?

No. In Spain a tip is voluntary and is not part of the fare. Rounding up is customary if you are happy with the service, but nobody is obliged to.

Will they take my big cases?

Public service vehicles carry a luggage limit for each passenger seat. If you have several large cases or bicycles, mention it when you arrange the car, so that one arrives which can take them.

Are pets allowed in the car?

Any taxi will take a pet provided it is in a carrier and does not disturb the other passengers; the vehicles licensed for the purpose will take an animal without a carrier as well. The simplest thing is to say so when you ring.
